Baton Rouge police arrested a 17-year-old boy who is accused in the fatal shooting his friend while playing with a gun on Saturday.

David Edwards Jr. shot Robert Thomas, 16, in the torso while the pair were playing with a gun about 11:50 a.m., said Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola.

Thomas was treated at a local hospital and died shortly after, Coppola said.

Edwards, 5846 S. Sunset Hill Ave., Baton Rouge, was booked Saturday into Parish Prison on a count of negligent homicide.
