East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies on Wednesday arrested a 33-year-old man accused of inappropriately touching an 11-year-old girl.
The victim told investigators that Quincy McKnight had inappropriately touched her Wednesday morning and begged her not to tell anyone, according to an arrest report. She told her mother and uncle, who called authorities about the incident, the report says.
McKnight denied the accusations when questioned by investigators but could not explain why the victim would falsely accuse him, the report says.
McKnight, 2755 69th St., Baton Rouge, was booked Wednesday into Parish Prison on counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile. A judge set his bail at $35,000, booking records show.
Naked woman’s hotel sojourn leads to arrest
East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies Tuesday arrested a 29-year-old woman accused of walking through a hotel naked and refusing to leave when confronted by a manager.
Laura Mistretta told a deputy that she was walking around naked at the Crestwood Suites, 5222 Sherwood Blvd., because a friend had stolen her pants, according to an arrest report.
Mistretta yelled at a hotel guest who confronted her as she was walking naked down the hallway, according to an arrest report. The guest reported the incident to the hotel manager, who asked Mistretta to leave.
The manager told investigators that Mistretta became irate and called her “every name in the book.” Customers and hotel employees gathered in the lobby to watch the exchange as Mistretta again refused to leave, deputies said.
Mistretta, 30295 Sunset Lane, Walker, was booked Tuesday into Parish Prison on counts of obscenity, disturbing the peace and entry on or remaining in places or on land after being forbidden. She posted $10,000 bail and was released Wednesday.
BR man, 24, booked in armed robbery at hotel
Baton Rouge police Wednesday arrested a 24-year-old man accused of helping rob a man and of then threatening him with a gun outside a hotel room after the victim picked up a cellphone belonging to one of the robbers.
Herbert Williams was involved in the initial robbery that happened in the parking lot of the Magnuson Hotel, 9999 Gwenadele Ave., according to an arrest report. One of the accused robbers dropped his cellphone, which the victim picked up and took back to his room, police said.
Williams and the other robber returned to the victim’s room about a minute later, demanding that he return the cellphone, police said. The victim called police, who identified Williams using hotel security footage, the report says.
Williams, 1854 McQuaid Drive, Baton Rouge, was booked Wednesday into Parish Prison on counts of attempted armed robbery. A judge set his bail at $20,000, booking records show.
Two houses destroyed in separate fires
Fires destroyed two houses late Wednesday and early Thursday, on Gayosa Street and on North Street, the Baton Rouge Fire Department said.
The first blaze happened just before 11:15 p.m. at 2241 Gayosa Street, said Mark Miles, a Fire Department spokesman.
Crews had the fire under control by 12:19 p.m., Miles said, but heavy smoke and fire damage left the house destroyed. He estimated the damage at $60,000.
The second fire happened just before 3:32 a.m. at 3023 North St., Miles said. Crews had that fire under control by 4:25 a.m., he said.
Heavy smoke and fire damage destroyed the home, which was valued at $50,000, Miles said.
He said investigators do not suspect foul play in either fire.
Five people arrested on suspicion of DWI
Authorities arrested at least five people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Wednesday and 2:30 p.m. Thursday, booking records show.
Those booked and the counts against them:
Gregory Beall, 25, 455 Wylie Drive, Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, speeding and reckless operation.
Allison Jennings, 20, 2 Redhaven Place, The Woodlands, Texas, first-offense DWI, pass on the right, improper lane usage and reckless operation.
Mark London, 35, 1744 Wisteria St., Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, reckless operation, hit-and-run, insurance required and failure to maintain control.
Colin Lourens, 23, 240 Leeward Drive, Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, driving left of center, improper lane usage and reckless operation.
Roy Wilson, 52, 4534 Clark St., Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI and failure to maintain control.
