A vacant house on Howard Street was destroyed by fire early Thursday in what fire investigators have determined to be arson.

The Baton Rouge Fire Department arrived 415 Howard St. just after 5 a.m. and found the house fully engulfed in flames, spokesman Curt Monte said in a news release. It took firefighters 15 minutes to get the fire under control.

The house was vacant at the time of the fire and had no utilities. The house, valued at $45,000, is considered a total loss.
