Two people were shot Monday night while walking near an apartment complex several blocks north of LSU’s campus.

A 24-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman were walking along Iowa Street near the University Edge apartments around 11 p.m. when they were shot, Baton Rouge police said.

The victims were taken to a hospital with non-life threatening injuries, said Cpl. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

The victims told police they were walking along Iowa Street when they noticed a vehicle drive by on a few occasions. Not long afterward, the victims saw two people walking toward them, so the victims turned and walked in another direction, Coppola said.

After turning, the victims heard shots fired. One was struck in the thigh and the other was hit in the buttocks, Coppola said.

No details were provided to police about a possible suspect or motive, Coppola said.
