BREAUX BRIDGE — A Baton Rouge man attempting to burglarize a Breaux Bridge gas station Friday fell through the ceiling and was chased out by a store clerk, the St. Martin Parish Sheriff’s Office said.
Ricky Cook, 30, had gone into the store bathroom and climbed through the ceiling into a locked office, the Sheriff’s Office said in a news release.
When he tried to climb back through, he fell and landed in the middle of the store.
He then ran out to a waiting car in a nearby parking lot as a store clerk pursued him, the release says.
The other man, Demanuel Royal, 33, also of Baton Rouge, is accused of hitting the store clerk and another vehicle with his car. The incident occurred at the Exxon gas station and, 2900 block of Grand Point Highway, the Sheriff’s Office release says.
Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office deputies found the men a short time after the incident on the 7000 block of Rosedale Road, Rosedale, and arrested them.
They were taken to the Iberville Parish Jail, the news release says, and both were transported to the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center, where Cook was booked on simple burglary and Royal on hit and run with serious bodily injury.
The store clerk was transported to a local hospital for injuries suffered when he was struck by Royal’s vehicle.
