Louisiana firefighters will gather Saturday to honor their colleagues who died in the line of duty.

The 2016 Louisiana Fallen Firefighters’ Memorial service will be at 11 a.m. at the memorial at 8181 Independence Boulevard in Baton Rouge.

Traci Adams will speak at the event. Her husband, Battalion Chief Tommy Adams of the Shreveport Fire Department, died in the line of duty in 2009. The ceremony will focus on the families of fallen fire officers.

“Many times we forget what families go through when they lose a loved one, especially when they were doing a job to protect others,” Walk of Honor Foundation president V.J. Bella said in a statement.

“This memorial is a place where the families can come to reflect on their loved ones and to allow the rest of us to give thanks for all they have done for us.”

There are 113 names on the Roll of Honor at the memorial. No names will be added this year, as no Louisiana firefighters were killed in the line of duty in 2015.

Saturday’s event is free and open to the public. A lunch will follow the memorial service. More information is available by calling the state fire marshal’s office at (225) 925-4911.
