A Jarreau man died in a single-vehicle crash Sunday after his pickup truck ran off La. 413 at a high speed, according to State Police.

Shortly after 4:30 p.m. Sunday, Thomas Bueche, 22, of Jarreau, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet pickup truck at high speeds northbound on La. 413, just north of La. 414 in Pointe Coupee Parish, nearly striking the rear of another vehicle ahead of him, State Police said in a news release.

Bueche passed the vehicle, then ran off the road to the left, according to the release. The pickup struck a mailbox and a utility pole before hitting a tree on the driver’s side.

Bueche, who wasn’t wearing a seat belt, suffered fatal injuries.

Impairment is a possible factor, State Police said, and a toxicology sample was taken and submitted to the Crime Lab for analysis.
