Authorities have arrested a man who fled from U.S. Marshals on Thursday after they tried to arrest him at a house off Hooper Road, U.S. Marshal Kevin Harrison said Monday.

Michael Dewayne Coleman was found around 1:15 p.m. Monday at a house on Harry Drive, Harrison said.

Marshals found Coleman after being told by Coleman’s “relatives and associates” that he might have been hiding in a house on Harry Drive that belonged to someone Coleman knew, Harrison said.

Coleman is currently booked in East Baton Rouge Parish Prison and will be taken to Pointe Coupee Parish Detention Center later Monday, Harrison said.

Baton Rouge police and East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s deputies had been assisting U.S. Marshals with the search.

Chris Trahan, an East Baton Rouge Parish School System spokesman, has said students at Sharon Hills Elementary School on Guynell Drive near Hooper Road were not allowed to leave their classrooms between 10 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. Thursday because of Coleman’s escape.

Harrison has said Coleman is wanted on two counts of resisting arrest and one count of escape. The warrant stems from a December incident in which Coleman fled from Pointe Coupee sheriff’s deputies, Harrison said.
