A child playing with a lighter set a Baton Rouge house on fire Tuesday afternoon, the 10th juvenile reported to have set a fire in the city this year.
The Baton Rouge Fire department responded around 4 p.m. to 1220 Doolittle Drive and found flames in a front bedroom extending into the hallway. Firefighters were able to bring the blaze under control within 20 minutes, the fire report says.
The rest of the house received heavy smoke damage, but there were no injuries. The fire caused an estimated $60,000 worth of a damage to the home, the report says. Red Cross came to the scene to assist the residents.
The child will be counseled and placed in the Juvenile Fire Setters program, which monitors and teaches children about the dangers of fire, the report says.
