DENHAM SPRINGS — Detective Jared Kreamer carried a woman from a burning house in which one man died Thursday morning, authorities said.
The Denham Springs City Police detective was treated for smoke inhalation, the woman he carried from the fire remains hospitalized and another woman received medical attention, Denham Springs Police Chief Scott Jones said.
State Fire Marshal H. “Butch” Browning identified the man who died as Willie David Robertson, 64, of 433 South Summer St., where the fire occurred.
Browning said the cause of the fire, which was first noticed by the women as a smoldering mattress, remains under investigation. He said there were no smoke detectors in the duplex.
Denham Springs Fire Chief Melvin Wheat said the house was destroyed by the fire which was reported shortly before 3 a.m.
