Two people have been arrested in the July slaying of a Livingston Parish man, and three others are accused of trying to help them escape to Texas.
Joe Anthony Baluch, 20, of Gonzales, and Blayson P. Fife, 18, of Prairieville, entered the Walker home of 61-year-old Rick McBride early in the morning July 22 to steal guns and money, Livingston Parish Sheriff Jason Ard said in a news release Tuesday. McBride discovered the pair inside his house and was fatally shot, Ard said.
Deputies discovered McBride's body the next day during a welfare check. He had been shot multiple times, the sheriff said.
Lori Steele, the spokeswoman for the sheriff, said it does not appear the intruders knew McBride.

Ard said that after the shooting, "several people worked against us by helping the suspects escape to Texas — where our partners were able to stop them."
Baluch, 43457 Norwood Road, Gonzales, was booked into Livingston Parish Prison on July 26 on first-degree murder and aggravated burglary.
Fife, 18076 Little Prairie, Prairieville, was arrested in Texas and booked into jail there on first-degree murder and aggravated burglary.
Also arrested in Texas were Kerstin Avery, 18, 41450 Glen Williams Drive, Gonzales; Kameron Jones, 17, 41356 Cemetary Road, Gonzales; and Trevor D. Lockett, 17, of Coushatta. The three were each booked on accessory after the fact to first-degree murder, Steele said.
Ard said those arrested in Texas will be extradited to Livingston Parish, but a timeline has not yet been set.
He added that a Crime Stoppers tip was key to helping investigators in "putting the pieces of this case together."
