UPDATE, 7:40 p.m.

Several thousand customers in the Baton Rouge area were without power Monday evening, the result of gusting winds that blew through the area.

Many of the electrical outages were clustered along Sherwood Forest Boulevard between Old Hammond Highway and Choctaw Drive, according to Entergy Louisiana’s website, and most had power again by Monday evening.

But several hundred Entergy customers, scattered pockets of other customers without power throughout the area, remained without power as of 7:45 p.m. Monday. The utility predicted on its website that nearly all would have the power back on by midnight.

The outages Monday included about 200 customers downtown, dozens of others in north Baton Rouge and more than a thousand along the Interstate 10 corridor in Prairieville, Gonzales and Sorrento.
