Baton Rouge Police arrested a 31-year-old man who allegedly grabbed and fondled two young girls near a Baton Rouge apartment complex, tried to pull one of them into his vehicle and groped a 37-year-old woman as she walked up to her apartment.
Over a period of about 30 to 45 minutes, Tyrone Latroy Thibodeaux, 10863 W. Fuller Place, is accused of accosting two children and a woman on Nov. 18 at the Woodside Manor apartment complex, just off North Ardenwood Drive, between 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., according to a Baton Rouge Police report.
Thibodeaux first assaulted a 37-year-old woman in the rear of the complex, according to the report. She told police Thibodeaux followed her up a staircase as she was returning to her apartment and grabbed her buttocks several times, the report says. Thibodeaux ran after the woman turned around and started cursing at him, according to the report.
Police said he then drove to an area in front of the complex where he approached a group of children playing outside. He told them he’d lost his iPhone and offered $20 to the child who helped him find it, according to the report.
As the children split up to look for the phone, one 9-year-old girl approached Thibodeaux and asked him where he “first went” when he lost the phone, police said. Thibodeaux reached over, grabbed her on her buttocks and then grabbed her shirt and tried to pull her into his vehicle, but she was able to close a sliding door and pull away from him, the report says.
The child told police that she managed to get away and run home; however, she said she saw Thibodeaux a couple of days later and he followed her around in the apartment complex that day, the report says.
After the 9-year-old girl escaped, Thibodeaux walked up behind an 11-year-old girl who’d also been playing in the group, reached down her shirt and began groping her chest, the report says. When she turned around, Thibodeaux grabbed her by the arm and leg and placed her on the ground where he held her as she struggled to get away and called for help. When a young boy, who had been playing in the group, started to walk toward them, Thibodeaux let go of the child and he ran off, according to the report.
None of the victims knew Thibodeaux or had seen him before, the report said, and the manager of the apartment complex told police that Thibodeaux is not a resident there.
Thibodeaux was booked into Parish Prison on counts of attempted aggravated kidnapping, attempted indecent behavior with a juvenile and misdemeanor sexual battery.
Thibodeaux also had been arrested June 18 for failing to register as a sex offender and knowingly providing false information and was free on $20,000 bail on those counts at the time of his arrest Tuesday.
According to court documents, Thibodeaux was convicted in 2006 of three counts of sexual arousal with a child in Onslow County, North Carolina.
Bail for Thibodeaux on the most recent counts was set at $45,000.
