Motorcycle rider killed in crash ID’d

A motorcycle rider killed Friday night in a traffic accident was identified as Jermaine Knox, 31, Baton Rouge Police Department spokesman Sgt. Eugene Smith said on Saturday.

Knox, of Boss Drive, Baton Rouge, was fatally injured after he tried to avoid a collision with a car at 4000 Delaware Street and Winbourne Avenue, according to a Police Department news release.

The crash was reported to police at 8:28 p.m. Friday, the release says.

Knox was traveling west on Winbourne Avenue in the right lane when a 2009 Corolla traveling south past a stop sign on Delaware Street drove into traffic, the release says.

Knox tried to avoid the car by putting his motorcycle on the ground, the release said.

Knox then fell off and hit his head on the driver’s side wheel of the car, Smith said.

Knox was pronounced dead at the scene, the release says.

The fatal crash is still under investigation, according to the release.

Authorities arrest 3 on suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least three people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, booking records show. Those booked and the counts against them:

•Brandy Catalano, 26, 31050 La. 16, Denham Springs, second-offense DWI, driving while under suspension for a prior offense, suspended or revoked driver’s license and improper lane usage.

•Holly Kleinpeter, 21, 38600 David Drive, Prairieville, first-offense DWI and headlights required.

•Victor Rosales, 38, 3251 Carlotta St., Baton Rouge, first-offense DWI, failure to stop, failure to signal, expired motor vehicle inspection, equipment violation, reckless operation of a vehicle, failure to change address on driver’s license and improper turn.
