A Donaldsonville woman died Saturday morning after her car flipped onto its roof on La. 1 south of White Castle, State Police said.
Latisha Johnson, 39, drifted off the right side of the highway into a ditch, then crossed a private driveway at about 7:20 a.m., police said in a news release. After striking a pile of dirt, her car went airborne and crossed a canal. It landed on its roof near a large concrete block.
Johnson was not wearing a seatbelt, police said. She was taken to a local hospital with critical injuries and later died.
Routine toxicology samples were taken, police said, but impairment is not suspected as a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
