A Denham Springs caretaker has been arrested and accused of writing herself almost $50,000 worth of checks from her client’s checkbook.
Angela Kennedy, 58, was taking care of an elderly man with peripheral neuropathy when she wrote herself a total of six checks that totalled $47,949.80, according to a police report.
Kennedy often helped the man write checks because he has trouble with the task — but earlier this month the man’s daughter saw the large withdrawals, and asked Kennedy for an explanation by text message, the report says.
Kennedy replied that she had taken the money because of financial hardship and “would pay the money back if given time,” according to the report.
Kennedy, of 11367 Windsor St., Denham Springs, was booked Tuesday into Parish Prison on counts of monetary instrument abuse, felony theft, forgery and exploitation of the infirmed.
