A Baton Rouge Police Officer on motorcycle patrol was injured in a crash Monday morning on Florida Boulevard just east of Airline Highway, but is expected to survive, said Baton Rouge Police spokesman Cpl. Don Coppola.
The officer, who hasn’t been identified, was traveling in the inner westbound lane on Florida Boulevard around 10:48 a.m. when a 18-wheeler truck changed lanes from an outer lane, striking the officer, Coppola said. The officer suffered moderate injuries and is being treated, he said.
The driver of the 18-wheeler was cited for failure to yield on a lane change, but is not expected to face additional charges, Coppola said. The officer was not responding to a call at the time of the collision.
Florida Boulevard was temporarily shut down due to the crash but has reopened, Coppola said.
