Four people were arrested after a home invasion and armed robbery involving drugs at an apartment complex near LSU Monday night, according to arrest reports.

Around 8:40 p.m. Monday, two Baton Rouge police officers patrolling the Campus Crossings apartment complex at 1443 Brightside Drive saw three men leave an apartment on the third floor. Two of the men had “assault rifle type firearms,” according to the arrest reports.

The officers told the three men to put their weapons down. Jemarcus Robinson, 21, put his rifle on the ground and laid down, but the other two, later identified as Jason Seaberry, 19, and Giovanny Diaz, 17, returned to the apartment. According to an arrest report, Seaberry and Diaz barricaded themselves inside the apartment and held the four residents inside hostage.

The BRPD Special Response Team was called to the apartment, and after about three hours, the suspects were taken into custody, police said.

The victims told officers that Diaz and Robinson threatened to shoot them if they did not hand over money, the reports say. Robinson’s rifle was later confirmed stolen. The rifle belonged to a Marksville Police Department officer, according to Baton Rouge police.

While clearing the scene, officers found approximately 3 pounds of marijuana in one of the bedrooms. Two of the home invasion suspects later told detectives they had targeted 20-year-old Micah Roby, “known to them to be a drug dealer,” to steal his drugs and money, according to an arrest report.

Roby told officers he didn't know why marijuana was in his bedroom or why he was targeted, police said. He initially said he did not know any of the men, but later said he knew one of them.

Roby, 1443 Brightside Drive, was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of possession with intent to distribute marijuana and possession of a controlled dangerous substance with a firearm.

The other three were booked on the following counts:

  • Diaz, 4161 Southpark, Baton Rouge, home invasion, armed robbery and false imprisonment.
  • Robinson, 16441 S. Harrell's Ferry Road, Baton Rouge, home invasion, armed robbery, false imprisonment and possession of a stolen firearm.
  • Seaberry, 9851 Jefferson Highway, Baton Rouge, home invasion, armed robbery and false imprisonment.
