A 71-year-old woman was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of cruelty to the infirm and domestic battery after allegedly tipping an elderly relative out of his wheelchair and otherwise tormenting him.

Elizabeth “Janie” Ponthieux “would scratch (the victim) on his arms and face, kick him in the shin and push him out of his wheelchair on a daily basis,” city police wrote in a probable cause affidavit.

The 77-year-old victim told officers the abuse “would be worst when (Ponthieux) was drinking.” Another relative gave police photos documenting the man’s injuries, and medical records backed up the claims, the affidavit states.

Ponthieux, of 1646 Applewood Drive, Baton Rouge, has been released from Parish Prison on $3,000 bond.
