Corey Dowels, 32

East Baton Rouge sheriff’s deputies arrested a 32-year-old man who allegedly punched a woman in the face outside an Airline Highway gas station, sending her to the hospital.

Corey Dowels, 6948 Autumn Drive, argued with his girlfriend outside a Mobil station around 1 a.m. Sunday, a Sheriff’s Office report says.

Deputies met with the victim at her home early Sunday morning and observed signs of “blunt force trauma to the face and eye socket,” the report says.

The injury caused “significant swelling” and Baton Rouge Emergency Medical Services took the woman to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center for evaluation and treatment, the report says.

Deputies spotted Dowels’ vehicle in an empty parking lot in the 3100 block of Madison Avenue after not finding him at his residence, the report says.

After being arrested, Dowels told deputies he didn’t do anything to the victim, the report says.

She “done that to herself,” Dowels said of the victim’s injuries, according to the report.

Deputies booked him into Parish Prison on one count of aggravated second-degree battery. Bail has not been set.
