Police arrested one of three men named Friday as suspects in the slaying of a 23-year-old Baton Rouge man shot to death Oct. 29 in his backyard.

“Dyshun Winns has been taken into custody without incident,” Baton Rouge Police spokesperson Cpl. L’Jean McKneely Jr. said Friday afternoon.

Winns, 19, was arrested on second-degree murder in the shooting death of Darius Johnson, 2746 N. 31st Street, who was killed around 4:15 p.m. Oct. 29 and pronounced dead at the scene.

Alexander Brock Jr., 23, and Marcus Gillard, 28, also of Baton Rouge, are still wanted in the shooting death, Baton Rouge Police said in a news release Friday. Gillard and Brock are wanted on accessory after the fact to second-degree murder, court documents show.

Friends and family of Johnson held a memorial in his honor Thursday evening at the North Acadian Thruway Park near his home. Johnson was set to graduate in December from Virginia College, Johnson’s sister Donyelle Davis said. He was one of seven children.

Court documents show that Gillard was previously charged with second-degree murder in 2008 and that Brock has an active protective order filed against him by a former girlfriend effective through April.

Police ask that anyone with information about the shooting contact the Violent Crimes Unit at (225) 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at (225) 344-7867.
