Police opened a homicide investigation Saturday after they found a man’s body laying in the 600 block of Egret Street, according to a Police Department news release.

The man killed was Willie James Sanders, 28, 2065 Tennessee St., police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said in a news release.

Police were called at 2:37 a.m. about shots being fired in the area, the release says.

Officers found Sanders’ body on the road when they arrived, the release says.

There is no motive for the fatal shooting at this point, the release says.

BR man, 57, accused of molesting girl

A 57-year-old Baton Rouge man implicated in previous and separate child molestation cases was arrested Friday after he was accused of molesting a girl from 1978 to 1982, according to an arrest warrant.

James Clayton, 15433 Altus Ave., was booked Friday by East Baton Rouge Parish sheriff’s deputies with molestation of a juvenile, according to the warrant.

The victim was 3 years old when the man started molesting her and he allegedly continued to molest her until she was 7, the warrant says.

Clayton also was booked into Parish Prison on Aug. 3 in a previous child molestation case, booking records show.

The victim in the previous case said Clayton abused her daily from 1985 to 1987, according to another arrest warrant.

The victim who said Clayton abused her from 1985 to 1987 said she had read Clayton was arrested May 23 in a separate child molestation case and decided to contact authorities, the warrant says.

BR house damaged by electrical fire

An electrical fire spread through half the structure of a house on 3575 Donaldson Drive on Saturday, according to a Baton Rouge Fire Department news release.

The rest of the house sustained heat and smoke damage, the release says.

The fire started in the living room near a mini-fridge, the release says.

Firefighters arrived at the scene at 11:40 a.m. and had the fire put out about 25 minutes later, the release says.

No one was injured, the release says.

The fire caused $90,000 in damage, the release says.

Authorities book 3 on DWI counts

Authorities arrested at least three people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

• Robert Hicks, 29, 513 Woodstone Drive, first-offense DWI, reckless operation of a vehicle, failure to maintain control and driver’s license required.

• Sean Thomas, 44, 12151 Amber Lakes Drive, Greenwell Springs, first-offense DWI, failure to stop for an emergency vehicle, possession of alcohol in a vehicle and failure to obey a stop sign or yield sign.

• Robert Waldrop, 31, 6131 Donnybrook Drive, Greenwell Springs, first-offense DWI, improper lane usage and failure to maintain control.
