Baton Rouge police are searching for a man accused in a parking-lot shooting death fueled by a drug deal.

Aljerard Warner, 22, is wanted on a count of first-degree murder in the death of Derrell Marquis Haynes, 19, Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said Friday in a news release.

Police have issued an arrest warrant for first-degree murder for Warner, accused of shooting Haynes in the chest during the drug deal Tuesday night in the parking lot of the Piggly Wiggly on Choctaw Driver and 38th Street, the release says.

Warner, 3826 Choctaw Road, Brusly, and Haynes, 6114 Stoneview Ave., were dealing about 7:45 p.m., when Haynes was shot in the chest.

A friend drove Haynes to a hospital, where he died.

At the time of the shooting, police said the suspect was seen driving a red 2013 Chevrolet Impala.

Anyone with information about Warner’s whereabouts is urged to contact the Violent Crimes Unit at 389-4869 or Crimestoppers at 344-7867.
