An inmate on work release who walked off the job at a Baton Rouge lumber yard on Wednesday was arrested by East Baton Rouge Parish deputies on Saturday.

Damarkius Spears, 24, was last seen Wednesday evening at 84 Lumber, 8675 S. Choctaw Drive. He was found and arrested on Saturday, according to a police report.

Louisiana Workforce personnel called 1 a.m. Thursday to report that Spears the day before had not taken the workforce bus back from his job site, as was protocol.

Spears, 8022 Queenswood Court, had been convicted of distributing marijuana in 2007, Pam Laborde, a state Department of Corrections spokeswoman said on Thursday.

Spears was booked into Parish Prison on a count of simple escape.
