A 19-year-old woman was shot and killed Wednesday night while sitting in a car in an apartment complex parking lot in north Baton Rouge, police said Thursday.

Ashley London, 2561 Shada Ave., was sitting in the car with another woman at the Elm Grove Garden Apartments, 8770 Elm Grove Garden Drive, about 9:50 p.m. when someone ran up to the car and shot her several times, police spokesman Sgt. Donald Stone said in a news release.

London was pronounced dead at the scene, Stone said.

The other person in the car was not injured.

Police said they have no motive or suspects.

Mary London, Ashley’s mother, said her daughter was trying to visit family at the apartment complex.

Mary London said she thinks her daughter was shot by mistake and was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

“She was a good person,” Mary London said. “She was friendly.”

Liz Irving, Ashley London’s aunt, said Ashley was a passenger in the car with her brother’s girlfriend.

Neither the other woman nor the brother were identified but the woman was driving the car, Irving said.

Irving said she was told that Ashley and her friend saw a white Jeep follow them from Lark Street to Elm Grove.

Irving said she also was told the pair had heard shooting before Ashley was shot.

Irving said her niece was reserved but could be “a little outgoing” at times and she loved children and was a frequent babysitter.

“She’s just a good person all around, really,” Irving said.

Mary London said her daughter had been looking for a job.
