A 26-year-old Baton Rouge man was killed early Friday when he lost control of his vehicle on Old Hammond Highway and it struck a roadside culvert, ejecting him from the vehicle.

Kenneth Salinas, who was alone in the vehicle, was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, State Police reported. He was ejected as the car became airborne, the vehicle coming to rest in a parking lot.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the crash occurred shortly after 3 a.m., as Salinas was traveling on Old Hammond Highway west of Florida Boulevard in a 2012 Lexus IS250.

Impairment is suspected to be a factor, and a toxicology sample was being taken for analysis, the State Police release said.
