An old mechanic shop on Florida Street in Baton Rouge, no longer in service, was destroyed in a fire, the Baton Rouge Fire Department said in a news release Friday.

Firefighters, who received the call just before 11 p.m. Thursday, arrived at 2601 Florida St. to find flames coming from the rear of the building. They were able to bring the fire under control just before 1 a.m. Friday.

The cause of the fire is undetermined and foul play is not suspected, a fire department spokesman said. The building is considered a total loss, with damage estimated at $250,000 for the building and $52,000 for the contents.
