A 23-year-old Greensburg man was killed in a single-vehicle crash Thursday evening in St. Helena Parish.

State Police said the victim, Ramario R. Berry, was a passenger riding with Lamar B. Williams, 37, of Zachary, in a 2002 Chevrolet Trailblazer on La. 38 west of La. 43. Just before 5 p.m., the vehicle ran off the road, struck a tree in a culvert and caught fire.

Berry was taken to St. Helena Parish Hospital, where he died.

Williams was taken to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge with moderate injuries.

“Impairment on his part is suspected at this time,” Trooper First Class Jared L. Sandifer, a State Police spokesman, said in a news release Friday. A toxicology sample was taken and has been submitted for analysis.

A third passenger in the car, Brandon Berry, 20, also of Greensburg, was taken to St. Helena Parish Hospital with minor injuries.
