Deputies Wednesday arrested a Wal-Mart employee who allegedly swiped a knife from the deli counter and attacked his co-worker’s boyfriend.

Claude James LeDuff Jr., 28, got into an argument with a female co-worker while they were both working at the Wal-Mart Neighborhood Market, 11550 Coursey Blvd., shortly before noon Wednesday, according to the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office report.

The woman contacted her boyfriend and told him LeDuff had disrespected her, the report says.

The co-worker’s boyfriend showed up a short time later and approached LeDuff, who was working behind the deli counter in an employees-only area. The boyfriend said he wanted to talk to LeDuff about the argument he’d had with the woman, the report says.

LeDuff told investigators when the victim said he wanted to talk, he also told LeDuff that he had a gun in his vehicle, the report says.

LeDuff told deputies he armed himself with a knife and approached the victim in a public part of the supermarket because he felt like he needed to defend himself.

Video surveillance shows the victim walk up to LeDuff and wait for him to leave the employees-only area, the report says. The footage captures LeDuff, armed with the knife, attack the man, the report says. When someone steps in to separate the two men, LeDuff continues to fight, according to the report.

Deputies booked LeDuff, 290 Key Largo Drive, into the Parish Prison Wednesday afternoon on counts of aggravated battery and disturbing the peace.
