Police arrested Thursday the Plaquemine man shot by a police officer Tuesday night shortly after he was accused of shooting and injuring another man.

State Police booked Quinton R. Lawrence, 53, into Iberville Parish Jail after he was released from Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center, where he was being treated for injuries, a news release said.

At least two Plaquemine police officers responded about 7 p.m. Tuesday to a report of shots fired in the 58700 block of W.W. Harleaux Boulevard, where they found a man detectives believe was shot by Lawrence. The victim identified Lawrence, who was standing across the street, as the shooter, Plaquemine Police Chief Payne said Tuesday.

When Lawrence ran, Plaquemine police followed him to a house on Capt. T.T. Harris Street, where Lawrence turned and “wielded a gun” at the police, Payne said. At that point, one of the officers shot him.

Neither man wounded that evening suffered life-threatening injuries.

Lawrence was booked on two counts of attempted second-degree murder, three counts of aggravated assault on a peace officer with a firearm and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm, the release says.
