Detectives identify man killed in shooting Monday night near Baker _lowres


Update, 11 a.m. Tuesday: The man shot to death Monday has been identified as 25-year-old Michael Smith, East Baton Rouge Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Casey Rayborn Hicks said Tuesday morning.

Detectives with the East Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office are working to identify a man shot to death Monday afternoon in northern East Baton Rouge Parish.

The victim was found outside an unoccupied building around 2 p.m. in the 300 block of Springfield Road, just west of U.S. 61 near Baker, and was taken by ambulance to a hospital where he later died from his wounds, said Casey Rayborn Hicks, a spokeswoman for the Sheriff’s Office.

Additional details about the shooting, which remains under investigation, were not immediately available Monday night.
