A worker was killed in a barge incident late Friday morning on the Mississippi River near the U.S. 190 bridge, authorities said.
The U.S. Coast Guard is investigating the incident, which took place about 11:30 a.m. on the west bank of the Mississippi River north of the U.S. 190 bridge, with assistance from the West Baton Rouge Sheriff’s Office, according to Sheriff’s Office spokesman Col. Richie Johnson.
“There was an incident on the river involving a barge, and someone was fatally injured,” Johnson said.
Johnson said he did not have the victim’s identity and had no further details about how the worker died. Information also was not available on who employed the victim.
The Coast Guard did not return a request for comment Friday.
