A motorcyclist was killed after failing to negotiate a curve on La. 1019 in Livingston Parish and crashing head-on into another vehicle Friday night, State Police said.

Patrick Dodson, 20, of Denham Springs, was driving his 2013 Kawasaki motorcycle southbound on La. 1019 about 8 p.m. when he crossed over into the northbound lane at a curve, said Trooper 1st Class Bryan Lee, a spokesman for State Police. A vehicle driven by James Stutzman Jr., 49, of Denham Springs, struck Dodson head-on and ejected him from his motorcycle, Lee said. said.

Although Dodson wore a safety helmet, he suffered fatal injuries from the crash and was pronounced dead at the Livingston Parish Coroner’s Office, Lee said.

A toxicology sample will be taken from Dodson and submitted to the State Police Crime Lab for analysis, Lee said. He said troopers investigating the crash discovered Dodson did not have a valid motorcycle endorsement.

Stutzman, who was properly restrained and not injured, submitted to a chemical breath test and showed no signs of impairment, Lee said.
