A driver of a car shot and killed his passenger on Sunday as the man jumped out of the car and tried to run away, Baton Rouge police said.

Kedrick Thompson, 32, of 4766 Shelly Street, was gunned down after getting out of a tan or gold-colored sedan in the 3900 block of Beechwood Drive around 10 a.m., according to a news release from Baton Rouge Police Cpl. Don Coppola.

As Thompson began running away from the vehicle, the automobile’s driver got out of the car and fired several shots at Thompson, Coppola said. The shooter then got back into the car and drove off, heading north on Beechwood Drive.

Thompson died later at a hospital, Coppola said.
