Police arrest man for leaving child, 4, in car while he went into casino to use restroom _lowres

Quavis Grant, 27

A 27-year-old Baton Rouge man who left a 4-year-old child alone in a vehicle in the Hollywood Casino parking lot for a half hour Saturday was booked into Parish Prison on a count of child desertion.

Quavis Deshawn Grant, of 6602 E. Monarch Ave., is shown on security footage from inside Hollywood Casino walking the casino floor while the child sat inside the vehicle with the windows rolled up, according to a Baton Rouge Police report.

Casino security retrieved the child and confronted Grant as he walked out of the casino toward the parking lot, the report says.

Grant told security guards he only went inside to use the restroom, the report says. A Baton Rouge police officer notes in the report that the vehicle was parked in a spot closest to the Mississippi River “where there are no barriers to prevent someone from falling into the river.”

Bail for Grant, who remained in Parish Prison Sunday evening, is set at $15,000.
