A 63-year-old St. Amant woman died Sunday afternoon after crashing her motorcycle into a turning car in an intersection in Ascension Parish, according to Louisiana State Police Troop A.

The motorcyclist, Loretta A. Ward, was taken to a hospital where she later died, Trooper Jared Sandifer, a State Police spokesman, said.

Ward was driving a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on La. 61 around noon Sunday when she ran a red light at the La. 73 intersection and crashed into a 2008 Nissan Maxima that had begun to make a left turn into the intersection, Sandifer said.

The driver of the Nissan, 36-year-old Stephanie Ledoux, of Walker, was taken to a hospital with moderate injuries, Sandifer said, adding that she was wearing a seat belt.

Ward was wearing a helmet, Sandifer said.

Police do not suspect impairment as a factor in the crash.
