A Plattenville man died Saturday after his vehicle collided head-on with a street sweeper on La. 1 in Assumption Parish early Saturday morning, police said.

Anthony Cox, 25, was traveling north on the highway about 4 a.m. and crossed the center line as he entered a curve to the right, Trooper 1st Class Evan Harrell said in a news release from State Police.

Joseph Castle, of Thibodaux, entered the same curve driving south in a 2009 GMC street sweeper, and their vehicles crashed head-on, Harrell said.

Castle was taken to Terrebonne Medical Center with moderate injuries, and Cox was taken to Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, where he later died.

Police do not suspect impairment to be a factor in the crash, and blood samples were taken from both drivers and will be processed at the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab, the release says.

Both were wearing seat belts, the release says.

The crash remains under investigation.
