A Monday morning fire being investigated as arson destroyed a vacant house in a north Baton Rouge neighborhood.

Firefighters responded to the 5300 block of North St. Gerard Circle, which is west of Airline Highway and north of Evangeline Street, shortly before 10 a.m. and found half of the house engulfed in flames, said Curt Monte, a Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman.

Firefighters controlled the fire quickly to prevent it from spreading to adjacent houses. No one was injured in the blaze, Monte said.

“The home had no power or any type of ignition source that would have caused the fire,” Monte said, which contributed to the determination that it was an arson.

The Fire Department asked anyone with information about the fire to call (225) 354-1419.
