Six people escaped from a fire Sunday morning at a Monroe Avenue house that engulfed a bedroom and burned part of the kitchen, an official said.

Firefighters arrived at the home at 2806 Monroe Ave. shortly after 7 a.m. to find the fire consuming a bedroom and spreading into the home’s kitchen, Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesman Curt Monte said.

Everyone inside the single-family home managed to get out unharmed, Monte said, and firefighters brought the flames under control within about 15 minutes of arrival.

Officials are still investigating the cause of the fire.

The Red Cross also responded to the fire to offer assistance to the residents.
