Authorities have identified the body found Tuesday afternoon along the Mississippi River on Southern University campus as Yvette Nettles, 51.

Nettles, of 10444 Avenue F, Baton Rouge, was reported missing on Jan. 29, Baton Rouge police spokesman L'Jean McKneely said.

On Tuesday, about a week later, a group of LSU students on an architecture field trip noticed her body near The Bluffs, a steep embankment on the west side of Southern University's campus.

Nettles had a history of mental health issues, including bipolar disorder and paranoid schizophrenia, McKneely said.

Police said last Thursday that Nettles was last seen in the area between Mills Avenue and Blount Road and that the possibility of foul play could not be ruled out.
