Police arrested a 49-year-old woman on attempted second-degree murder after she stabbed a man she said was going to kill her Wednesday night.
Betty J. Canada, who was arrested Thursday morning, told Baton Rouge Police that she and the man started arguing at the man’s house on Cannon Street before they walked over to her house at 3965 Harriet St. Wednesday around 10 p.m., the police report says.
The argument continued there and Canada told police the man struck her in the face with an open hand and told her he was going to kill her.
When he started to reach for a weapon from his pocket, Canada stabbed him in the side, she told detectives. Canada said he was known to carry a weapon.
The woman also told police that she hit the man with a pipe, police reported.
A witness confirmed that the victim was struck with a pipe but did not know he had been stabbed. The witness did not know whether the victim had a weapon with him, the report says.
Canada was booked into East Baton Rouge Parish Prison early Thursday morning on attempted second-degree murder.
