A suspect has been arrested in a Sept. 26 fatal shooting on Rosenwald Road in Baton Rouge, police said Monday.

Kendrick Davis, 22, address unknown, was arrested Sunday and booked on a count of second-degree murder in the death of Craig Thomas, 22, of 4343 Denham St., according to a BRPD news release.

Police were patrolling the area of the 8600 block of Scotland Avenue in search of Davis and saw a man matching his description, according to an affidavit of probable cause filed by Baton Rouge police. When contacted by police, Davis started running, but was placed in handcuffs after a brief chase.

Police found that Davis was carrying marijuana and a semi-automatic pistol, which was confirmed stolen, the affidavit says.

In addition to second-degree murder, Davis was booked on one count each of possession of a stolen firearm, illegal carrying of a firearm, possession of marijuana, and resisting an officer.

Thomas was found dead on the ground next to his vehicle in the parking lot of 1188 Rosenwald Road early on the morning of Sept. 26, police spokesman Sgt. L'Jean McKneely said at the time. Thomas was pronounced dead at the scene.
