A 30-year-old woman was shot in the chest around noon Saturday on Geronimo Street and died later at a local hospital, police said.

Keisha Parker of 3852 Geronimo St. was shot in the chest while in the 3800 block of Geronimo by a man last seen leaving the scene in a green SUV, Baton Rouge police said.

Police found her outside suffering from a gunshot wound in front of a house near her residence, spokesperson Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said. Police believe she was visiting a friend at the time of the shooting.

“The vehicle had stopped, and she was walking to the vehicle when the passenger pulled out a gun and shot her,” McKneely said.

The motive behind the shooting is still undetermined, and police did not have any leads as of late Saturday, McKneely said.

Police urge anyone with information to contact its violent crimes unit at 389-4869 or Crime Stoppers at 344-7867.
