An 18-year-old woman was acting in self-defense when she fatally stabbed a 19-year-old man whom she knew after he attacked her Thursday morning, Baton Rouge police said.

Kendrick Edwards, 6245 Arbor Vitae Drive, died Thursday after suffering a single stab wound to the groin area, said Cpl. Don Coppola Jr., a Baton Rouge police spokesman.

Investigators say Edwards went to the woman’s residence around 11 a.m. Thursday and began to physically attack her, causing her to arm herself with a knife and stab him, Coppola said.

Edwards was taken to a hospital where he later died, Coppola said.
