Firefighters were called to an apartment fire on Nicholson Drive on Saturday afternoon, according to the St. George Fire Protection District.

St. George, as well as Baton Rouge Fire Department units, arrived at Indigo Park Apartments at 11959 Nicholson Drive at 5:35 p.m., St. George spokesman Eldon Ledoux said in a news release.

Damage from the fire was limited to one apartment unit, No. 17104, Ledoux said.

The fire was contained in the kitchen, where it started, Ledoux said. However, the rest of the apartment received smoke and water damage.

Ledoux did not identify the exact cause of the fire.

The fire caused $70,000 in damage, and no one was injured, Ledoux said.

Electrical fire sparks at Central business

An electrical fire at a medical building in Central caused damage but no injuries, the Central Fire Department reported Saturday

The fire started about 10:30 p.m. Friday in a wall by the rear door of Central Dental Care, 11424 Sullivan Road, Building B, Suite A, Central Fire Department Capt. Derek Glover said in a news release.

Two other offices in the building sustained minor smoke damage — Lane Regional Medical in Suite B and Central Imaging Center in Suite C, Glover said.

Police: Woman shot in leg near Southern

Police are investigating a shooting in the 8100 block of Scenic Highway on Saturday, a police spokesman said.

A woman was shot in the leg in that area around 6:45 p.m. near Southern University, Cpl. L’Jean McKneely said. Her injuries were non-life threatening.

Police have not released the identity of the woman.

There are no motives or suspects at this time, McKneely said. The shooting remained under investigation late Saturday.

The shooting occurred while Southern’s football team was playing Alcorn State University at A.W. Mumford Stadium in Baton Rouge.

Authorities book 3 on suspicion of DWI

Authorities arrested at least three people suspected of driving while intoxicated in East Baton Rouge Parish and booked them into Parish Prison between 2:30 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Saturday, booking records show.

Those booked and the counts against them:

• Andrew Jones, 22, 13036 Raymond Road, Gonzales, second-offense DWI and improper lane usage.

• Joshua Raulerson, 22, 2206 Perkins Road, first-offense DWI, disobeying a traffic control device, public bribery and possession of schedule II drugs.

• Ethan Wackerman, 19, 777 Ben Hur Drive, first-offense DWI, underage driving under the influence, improper lane usage, reckless operation of a vehicle and drinking in a motor vehicle.
