Sheriff’s deputies arrested two St. Gabriel men on Wednesday and are looking for a third in a May robbery and shooting in Gardere that left two Baton Rouge men dead.
Deputies arrested Charles Lanaute, 18, and Darrius Montel Miller, 21, in the fatal shootings while a third suspect, Plug Lanaute, 19, remains on the loose, a Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman said.
The three men allegedly went to the Gardere Lane apartment of Orok Ironbar Jr., 32, on the night of May 18 to sell marijuana, Casey Rayborn Hicks, the spokeswoman, said.
One of the three men, Charles Lanaute, told detectives that he remained downstairs with the marijuana while Miller and Plug Lanaute, Charles Lanaute’s cousin, went upstairs to the apartment. While in the apartment, Plug Lanaute and Miller shot and robbed Ironbar and Russell Celestine, 31, according to statements made to detectives, Hicks said.
When deputies arrived at Ironbar’s apartment, which sits on Gardere Lane between Ned and Christian Paul avenues, in the early morning hours of May 19, they found Ironbar dead and Celestine seriously injured. Celestine was taken to a hospital where he later died.
Charles Lanaute, 1340 Besson Lane, and Miller, 1755 Besson Lane, both of St. Gabriel, were booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish Prison on counts of first-degree murder and armed robbery. Plug Lanaute, also of St. Gabriel, will be booked on the same counts when he is arrested, Hicks said.
The shooting remains under investigation, she said.
