A police chase Monday night began while deputies were investigating a shooting in Livingston Parish and ended when the suspect jumped off the Mississippi River bridge in Baton Rouge.

Livingston Parish Sheriff's spokeswoman Lori Steele said deputies responded to reports of a domestic shooting shortly before 9 p.m. Monday off Gaylord Road in Walker. One female victim was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Steele said authorities believe the driver of the vehicle deputies were pursuing was directly involved in the shooting.

Louisiana State Police spokesman Bryan Lee said State Police assisted in the chase, which ended around 9 p.m. when the suspect drove onto the Mississippi River bridge on Interstate 10 and then jumped off.

Lee said authorities were using the Port of Greater Baton Rouge to continue their investigation.

More details to come.
