A Baton Rouge man was arrested Thursday when he turned himself in to authorities five days after a bicyclist was struck and later died in a hit and run on Airline Highway, police said.
Terrance Kirklin, 26, was booked on a count of felony hit and run, said Baton Rouge police spokesman Cpl. L’Jean McKneely in a news release.
Kirklin, of 6515 Hanks Drive, contacted traffic homicide detectives to turn himself in, McKneely said, but did not explain why he fled the scene or why he decided to turn himself in days later.
The bicyclist, Fredrick Harris, 49, of 3942 W. Brookstown Drive, died three days after he was struck in the collision Saturday night.
Harris was crossing the road on a bicycle in the 6900 block of Airline Highway around 7:30 p.m., according to a news release. Harris did not cross at an intersection and was apparently struck by an older-model Pontiac traveling south on Airline Highway as he crossed the road.
