A 6-year-old has died from injuries sustained in a crash Thursday night in East Baton Rouge Parish, officials said.

Louisiana State Police said Ava Branstetter, of Prairieville, died Sunday. She was transported to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital with serious injuries after a three-vehicle crash at Highland Road and Old Perkins Road around 7:30 p.m. Thursday.

The crash occurred when 67-year-old Jacque Gregory, traveling westbound on Highland Road in a 2004 Nissan Quest, failed to yield while making a left turn onto Old Perkins Road, State Police said. At the same time, 30-year-old Karl Tiemann, of El Paso, Texas, was traveling eastbound on Highland Road in a 2011 Jeep Wrangler. Tiemann’s vehicle struck the right side of Gregory’s vehicle in the intersection, causing it to roll onto the driver’s side.

Gregory’s vehicle then slid through the intersection and was struck by a 2015 Chevrolet Cruze driven by Aileen King, 53, of Stuart, Florida.

Ava Branstetter was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, State Police said. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor in the crash.
