An East Baton Rouge Parish grand jury on Thursday indicted an Alexandria man on a charge of second-degree murder in the January fatal shooting of 32-year-old Brannon Counts, according to court records.

Ruben Van Dyke, 30, was booked in the Jan. 10 killing after investigators tracked him down in Lafayette Parish, authorities have said.

Van Dyke allegedly shot Counts in a parking lot at 5701 Hollywood St.

The shooting took place during a fight over a drug transaction, according to Baton Rouge police.

The victim sped away in a car but later crashed into a backyard fence and died at the scene, authorities have said.
